Support Groups

Did you know...all our support groups are run by Area Coordinators who volunteer their time to organise meetings all over the country. Our Area Coordinators are from all walks of life including some who suffer with EDS, to those who care for someone with it. Without our volunteers, the support we provide to you would cease to exist, so we are incredibly grateful for the invaluable work they do.

We have over 100 groups online and face to face, with the aim to provide safe, friendly environments where members can meet others, listen to people’s stories and learn from each other. All of our support groups also have a closed regional Facebook group for members only.

We are very grateful to all of our funders who help pay for the meetings, training of our volunteers and much more.

Manchester, Bolton and Oldham
My name is Megan, I’m 22 and from Manchester. I was diagnosed with Hypermobile EDS (hEDS) at 5 and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) at 14.
The journey to diagnose both conditions was tough. Although I don’t remember much from the EDS diagnosis, from what I remember, it was tough for my parents to know that there was something not quite right…. And then 5 years later, along came the genius who knew what they were talking about! At 14, the genius who diagnosed me with POTS almost had a heart attack when he found out what kind of things I was doing in PE (we are talking cross country, lacrosse, gymnastics, rock climbing etc) and instantly wrote a letter to my teachers saying that I’m banned from taking part in the lessons on health grounds- I hated PE, so bonus 🙂
I was the only person, all throughout School and College years who has EDS and so felt pretty lonely in the sense that nobody could really relate to what I was going through. Till I started seeking support. Having a disability has only made me stronger as a person and advocating for those who have a disability has become my life mission.
I have volunteered before at my local library and helped with the disabled community for a year, while at College studying Applied Science. Because of this I can empathise and relate to a lot of problems EDS throw at people; I know how brilliant having someone you trust to talk to about anything in confidence. I’m only a Facebook message or email away if you need me!
