Wheelchairs for young people with EDS

Thanks to the generous support of The Sandhu Charitable Foundation we are pleased to announce that we will be working with Variety, the Children’s Charity , to make wheelchairs available for children with EDS and related conditions through their flagship event “the PROPS”. Funding is available for powered, manual and sports wheelchairs. Variety works closely with medical advisers to make sure the equipment is right for its new owner.
While regular exercise is essential to help manage hypermobility-related problems and to prevent deconditioning, we understand that using a wheelchair sometimes can be very helpful for some people with EDS.
Applications for funding can be made by a professional, parents or the young person themselves but must be supported in writing by an appropriately qualified professional (i.e. the child’s occupational therapist or physiotherapist). Application forms and detailed guidance are available from the Variety website. All applications will be assessed by Variety’s Wheelchair Committee.
Completed application forms should be posted to The Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, Devonshire House, Manor Way, Borehamwood, WD6 1QQ or scanned and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject ‘Wheelchair application’.
