Rethink Mental Illness – expert, accredited advice and information to everyone affected by mental health problems

Advice and information: When mental illness first hits you or your family, it can be hard to know who or what to trust. We give people clear, relevant information on everything from treatment and care to benefits and employment rights. We were the first mental health charity to gain the Information Standard for our trusted and relevant information.
Services and groups: We have over 200 mental health services and 150 support groups across England. From psychological therapies and Crisis and Recovery Houses to peer support groups and housing services, we directly help thousands of people every year across England.
We give practical advice and information about issues such as:
- Different types of therapyand medication
- Benefit, debt, money issues
- Police, courts and prison
- Your rights under the Mental Health Act and other laws
Advice line Call 0300 5000 927 Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm. Rethink also signposts to a number of other local mental health trained emotional support lines.

Samaritans

Every seven seconds, Samaritans answer a call for help.
We’re here, day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.
Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, we’re taking action to prevent the crisis.
We give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. And we encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.
Papyrus – confidential help and advice for young people and anyone worried about a young person 24 hours a day
Help others to prevent young suicide by working with and training professionals, They also campaign and influence national policy. Their helpline is available for those under 35yrs of age. Anybody contacting them over 35 will be signposted to a relevant service.
Spokz People – therapeutic support for people with a disability or chronic health condition

SANE provides emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including families, friends and carers. SANE Services are for people aged 16 or over

Our mental health support services are completely confidential. Whatever your problems or concerns, you will receive non-judgemental emotional support. Our professional staff and trained volunteers have specialist mental health knowledge; we can help you consider options for support that address your individual circumstances.
Our services and support options are designed to provide a range of ways of getting and giving support, and considering self-help and self-management strategies.
- Helpline: Available on 0300 304 7000 from 6pm – 11pm every evening
- Textcare: Allows you to arrange for messages of support at times that are right for you
- Support Forum: Available 24 hours a day to share your experiences with other members and give and receive mutual support
