Breaking down barriers
Breaking down Barriers is a project EDS UK have been working on since January 2017. Funded by the Sylvia Adams Trust, the project aims to extend genetic services to the south Asian community, who are known to have a higher prevalence of the Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes.
The first few months of the project were spent getting our posters and leaflets translated into Urdu, Bengali and Hinidi. Since September, Mya and Charlotte have been distributing EDS UK material to 34 places of worship around East London. They have been warmly welcomed by many religious leaders in the community and have been able to chat with them about EDS and its implications. The hope is that this will begin to spread awareness of the condition and hopefully point people who believe they may have the condition, in our direction.
